Dear friends,
Our fellow Cape Verdean sister, Aurora, is running a Marathon to support cancer research in honor of her uncle who passed away from blood cancer. Her Uncle was a Cape Verdean of great pride, from Sao Antao. He kept his disease a secret from friends and family members other than his wife and two children. As Cape Verdeans, we need to take care of our health, and that means communicating our health history to our family members so that future generations are insured of a healthier and long life. Aurora wants to do her part in spreading the word by making a big statement and running in a national marathon. Please, let's do our best to help out. It's not for her, but for all of us.
She has a horrible time asking for money from friends and family, so she
asked me for some help in getting the word out about her fund raising for charity. And of course I knew I was going to write you all... then time passed and now I am in a major panic to get this note out to you in time for her to meet her quota by the deadline of September 15th for the race.
I am passing the hat and asking you to go to her web page and donate what
you can (or until it hurts.... )... but good karma in the bank is just as
good and who knows when (not if) I will need to draw down against that.
This is Aurora's web page...http://www.active.com/donate/tntnyc/runaudirun and her note for me to pass along to you all:
"If 100 people donated just $10.00 each, that's $1000.00. My goal is to
raise $2500.00 by September 15th. Tell everyone you know go to the web page.If you cannot donate by credit card, and want to send a check, make a check out to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and then contact Aurora at her email address at: audibrit@yahoo.com as to where to mail it.
In our day and age, there is almost no one that hasn't been affected in
some way by the insidious disease that is cancer. My Uncle Alex was not one
of the fortunate ones although he had the best doctors and the best
health care his employer and his money could buy.Quite frankly, often there isn't the necessary funding in place for state of the art and cutting edge medical research. You can do your part by making a small donation, whatever you can. Remember, even $10.00 will go along way to helping save a life or extending a patient's quality of life. I am grateful for whatever you can do! My best to you! "
