One year after arriving from Cape Verde, to join his mother Ana Semedo in Pawtucket, Emerson is already a star soccer player at Shea High School.

According to the Providence Journal, “He burst onto the Interscholastic League scene in his first game, scoring four goals, and kept on scoring. He finished with 32 goals and 10 assists.” His coach Pierre Ridore said, “He has great speed and great ball control and knows how to finish and score. He has a great knowledge of the game, moves well without the ball and with the ball and has a powerful shot. He gives 100 percent every game.”
