(ENG) Emigrantes 3 – Brooklyn Italians 2, Emigrantes takes a step towards returning to the Lamar Hunt US Open
The 2009 Massachusetts State Cup Champions Emigrantes Das Ilhas took a step toward returning to the Lamar Hunt US Open with a 3-2 victory over the two-time Open Cup champions (1979, 1991), The Brooklyn Italians, in the first round of USASA Region I Open Cup.
Emigrantes travelled to NY and took an early lead when Almir “Zoro” Barbosa scored on a header in the 35fh minutes of the first half. Before the Brooklyn Italians even had the time to settle Zoro scored again giving Emigrantes a 2-0 going into the half time.
On the second half the Brooklyn’s were able to reduce the scoreboard but Jose Veiga’s goal in the 25fh minute proved to be fatal.
Emigrantes booked their place in the USASA Region I Open Cup tournament by beating Alianca CV of Brockton 2-1, in the Semifinals of the Massachusetts Open Cup tournament and the Boston Olympiakos (2007 National Amateur Cup champions) 4-2 on penalty kicks, on the state championship game.

The USASA Region I tournament that got underway this weekend, is the beginning of what will eventually send two clubs to the 2010 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The opening round which kicked off this weekend will be followed by the quarterfinals on May 2 and the semifinals on May 23. The two teams that emerge victorious in the semifinals will both be awarded a spot in the US Open Cup, and if the format remains true to recent form, they will be matched up with either a second division or a third division side. Major League Soccer teams will not enter the competition until the third round.

(POR) Emigrantes 3 - Brooklyn Italians 2, Emigrantes dá um passo para regressar ao Lamar Hunt U.S. Open CUP

  6. dju d'dmilia you are always here on criolosports and everywhere advertising yourself as a patriot, someone that loves his country and his countrymen so instead of being happy imigrantis are doing a good job representing our country you are here contradicting yourself. its ok if you dislike the way imigrantis won a specific championship, its ok if you dislike imigrantis. but don't you think that we deserve a congratulation for our acomplishements? be real man!!!!

Thank You 2 every1 who is supporting EMIGRANTES and the fact that we are representing MA and most important our CV community....For those who always have to find a negative you should be happy and proud that someone is puting the CV community out there and yes zorro (job well done) did make 2 goals but didnt do it on his own he did in fact have the help of EMIGRANTES players....EMIGRANTES representing in Open Cup is not only for us but for every1 cape verdean that wants us to be know in the world for something good and not always negative......LETZ GO EMIGRANTES.....

  11. Dju D'milia, There is something called rules. Perhaps you are not familiar with it. Fidjos Terra lost 3 points because they did not follow the rules/bylaws. At the time you could only field two players from the USL and Fidjos Terra violated it. In the US Open Cup Emigrantes is able to use any player so long as that player is on the roster and registered with Mass Soccer. So please tell me where the similarities are? If Fidjos Terra was in the same position all of us would be congratulating them as well. This is not about you or Fidjos Terra. It's about CV soccer being represented nationwide.

  12. as a fan of fidjus terra i am sure that fidjus terra does not support dju's comments and ideas. on the other hand i would like to congratulate imigrantis for representing us capeverdeans on a positive way in light of all the bad publibicity we are getting on the news.

  16. D'emilia, no need for sarcasm. Fidjos Terra and Emigrantes are two of the best teams in NELASA and they're fierce rivals. However that should be limited to NELASA games. I'm sure that much like yourself there are a few Emigrantes' fan that probably would have taken your position had it been the other way around. However, I can assure you that the majority of Emigrantes' fans would have been happy for Fidjos Terra, NELASA and the CV community as a whole. It is tempting to say that's why capeverdeans will never go anywhere, but that would be unfair to say given all the positive comments I have read. Emigrantes will host a team for NJ on May 2nd. I hope to see you there cheering for them to loose. Shameful you are!!!!!!!!!!

  17. This is the problem with us cv. Instead of being happy that imigrantes are doing a good job representing us and our sports all we do is bring negativity and critisize. it’s a shame!!!! dju d'milia all you do is look for an opportunity to “manda bocas” and criticize. Why don’t you actually do something useful and help out? You are always on the internet talking of your patriotism. acting like you’re more capeverdean than the rest of us. Talk is cheap!!! Ask yourself what have you done to help cv? What have you done to help nelasa? What have you done to help any local team? What? what?

  20. I guess there is more than one Dju the clown on this site. what does Bibi have to do with Emigrantes winning games? Bibi is the president of NELASA, but he has nothing to do with the US Open Cup. Yet Emigrantes reached the Finals last year. You guys are always looking for excuses. Emigrantes have a good team and win games on the field and not because Bibi is the president. Who was the president last year?
